Our Commitment to Privacy
Syncara is built with a local-first, privacy-by-design architecture. Your clipboard data, files, and synced content never leave your local network. We do not operate cloud servers that relay, store, or process your clipboard content.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Google Account (Optional): If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture solely for device identification and pairing purposes. This information is stored locally on your device.
1.2 Automatically Collected Information
- Device Information: Device name, OS version, and a locally generated device identifier — used exclusively for device discovery and pairing on your local network.
- Network Information: Local IP address and port — used only for establishing direct device-to-device connections within your Wi-Fi network.
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
- Clipboard content (text, images, files)
- Usage analytics or telemetry
- Location data
- Contacts, call logs, or SMS
- Browsing history
- Keystroke or input data
2. How Your Data is Handled
2.1 Clipboard Sync
All clipboard data (text, images, files) is transmitted directly between your devices over your local Wi-Fi network using WebSocket connections. Data is transmitted in real-time and is not stored on any external server. Once received by the target device, the data exists only in that device's local memory or clipboard.
2.2 File Transfers
Files shared through Syncara are transferred directly between devices over your local network. Files are saved to your device's local storage (e.g., Downloads folder). No copies are retained on intermediate servers.
2.3 Device Discovery
Syncara uses mDNS (Multicast DNS) and/or direct IP connection to discover other Syncara devices on your local network. This process is entirely local and does not involve any external DNS or discovery servers.
3. Permissions Explained
Android Permissions
4. Third-Party Services
Syncara integrates with the following third-party services:
- Google Sign-In: Used for optional account authentication. Subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
- Firebase: Used for authentication services only. No clipboard or file data is sent to Firebase. Subject to Firebase's Privacy Policy.
We do not use any advertising SDKs, analytics trackers, or crash reporting tools that collect personal data.
5. Data Security
Since all data transmission occurs over your local network, your data is protected by your Wi-Fi network's own security (WPA2/WPA3 encryption). Syncara does not transmit any data over the public internet. Device pairing uses identity-based verification to prevent unauthorized connections.
6. Data Retention
Syncara does not retain your clipboard data or transferred files beyond the immediate transfer session. All synced data exists only on your devices. Uninstalling the application removes all locally stored preferences and cached data.
7. Children's Privacy
Syncara is not directed at children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically for any changes.
